We went a spent some time with Smudge this weekend.
Even though I know he is happier and less stressed, I miss the little guy and the way he would just cuddle and stretch out with me on the couch. Everytime I go and see him and sense how fearful and reluctant he is to stay in the same room as us, it breaks my heart a little more. But enough about me...
Smudge is doing really well. He has obviously plateaud and the sub-q fluids are working their magic. He has a nice layer of muscle on his ribs and his hind quarters are no longer bony. His new sister has been changed permanantly too. She no longer hides when anyone comes for a visit. The MIL says she is a completely different cat. I will try and get some pictures of him. At least ones that do not involve crouching down on my knees and peering under the MIL's bed. That's Smudge favourite hiding spot.
Purrs to all.

I think this is the best news I've heard in a while. I know you miss him a lot tho. Maybe, and don't laugh because lotsa beans use them including mine, you can contact a local Reiki master who can direct you to an animal communications person. This person can explain to Smudge he shouldn't be scared when you come over. We've used a local lady (twice with mommy's old woofie and twice with me when I got really sick) and she has been a big help.
We are so glad to hear that Smudge is doing well, and think about all the good he has done for his new sister...

I am really glad to see a Smudge update. I am glad that he is doing so well. I hope that warms your heart to help heal the breaking that results from his still being afraid of you. He has done wonders for his new sister. I hope that, in time, Smudge will stop being afraid of you.
i'm so glad to hear that Smudge is doin' good - me & my mom thinks 'bout him often. thanks fur the update!
Napoleon & Hunter -
Not sure if you ever got an answer or not, so . . .
Most of Smudge's story is on And Then There Were Four...Eh!, though chasing it down might take some research. Briefly, he had some kidney(?) problems and relocated to his Grandma's house to avoid some of the stress from the kittens, Dolce and Baci.
