Persephone is the most persecuted of the House Panthers over at One Eyed Jack's, she just hasn't learned to blame things on those invisible bands of marauding woofies that come around. Or perhaps it's just the glowing edges that give her away?

Did you know? Excess plague and tartar can lead to gingivitis (an inflammation of the gums), which can allow bacteria from the mouth to enter the bloodstream. From there, bacteria can travel throughout the body and cause problems with your heart, liver or kidneys.

Keeping plaque and tartar under control is the key to a healthy mouth and a healthy House Panther.

We hope that you have found our little column on Feline Dental Care this last week helpful. Remember to keep you teeth clean and show us those pearly whites when you're on the prowl!

February is National Pet Dental Health Month. You can find out more at Greenies.com. Cat Fancy Magazine also running lots of info on Cat tooth care in their February issue.

Pepper Needs Help! Pepper, a Russian Blue, has Cholangitis (inflammation of the bile ducts) and can't keep food down. She also has Hepatic Lipidosis from not eating and must be force fed with a feeding tube in her neck. Her medical care and recovery is both expensive and lengthy.

You can read more about Pepper on Pepper's Page.

If you can help in any way, they really need to raise some funds to help Pepper. Thanks to Jan's Funny Farm for bringing this very serious matter to our attention.

Our fellow House Panther Alexi is a Russian Blue, so it would be great to help out this House Panther in need!

I love the name Madness, but more importantly, she is very close to being my twin. The stamped effect was used on this photo and then areas were recolored using the magic wand and paint bucket features. It gives it a sort of primitive artwork quality. You can find Madness on Random Drift.

Did you know? Humans can help with your oral care by using products that have been proven to keep gums and teeth healthy.

Holistic Veterinarians can help prevent problems, like those that might affect your teeth and gums, before they start. They can recommend the best dental care products to use for your particular needs.

To find a holistic veterinarian in your area, go to the American Holistic Veterianry Medicine Association's website and click on "Find a Holistic Vet."

Did you know? There are food additives that support dental care.

Seaweed-based products can be sprinkled onto your food naturally counteract plaque on the tooth surface. Rich in minerals, iodine and amino acides, the active ingredients in these products are absorbed into the bloodstream and give your saliva the ability to prevent plague from forming and to soften existing tartar.

It also helps to eliminate bad breath. (I have absolutely no idea how it tastes.)

From PetsitUSA.com Blog: An 11 year old girl in Ijamsville, MD is working to help pets find loving homes. She’s created her own website and invites people to email her so that she can match them up with pets in need of a home.

A sixth-grader is using Internet skills and a love for animals to pair up those looking to get rid of a pet with those looking to find one on a Web site she created herself.

Jennie Lupkin, 11, finds people looking for pets and people trying to live without them, e-mails them and eventually finds successful matches.

“Sometimes, people are trying to buy animals,” her father, Richard Lupkin, said. “She’ll suggest they try a shelter instead.”

The sixth-grader at Oakdale Middle School in Ijamsville has several pets herself: a bichon frise, a hermit crab, two birds and fish. Her father is allergic to cats or else she said she’d have one of those, too. She wants a rescue horse one day so she can put to good use the riding lessons she’s taking.

Jennie didn’t start with her own Web site; her first match came with a cat named Jazzy at the Frederick County Animal Shelter and someone on Craigslist looking for a cat. She contacted the prospective owner about Jazzy and later the match was made.

She later created http://www.freewebs.com/frederickanimalcontrol with photos and stories of the animals up for adoption.

“The shelter seems to want me to try to find homes for cats,” she said. “Dogs usually go in a week or two.

Did you know? You can drink your way to a healthier mouth?

It's true! Flavorless dental water additives also contain beneficial enzymes that help reduce the level of odor-causing microbes and deter plaque formation. Dental rinses that are squirted directly on the teeth are also available.

Mark & Chappell make not only feline dental paste, but also dental drinks for your and your favorite woofie.

Did you know? Cats are very stealthy and don't want to show that they're hurting. The first sign of tooth and gum disease may be that there are no signs.

Brush your teeth with a natural pet toothpaste. Having your human brush your teeth daily is the best way to remove plaque before it turns to hard tartar. A product that contains natural ingredients or antibacterial, plaque-fighting enzymes helps replenish the enzymes normally found in feline saliva and aids in reducing harmful bacteria. A paste made of baking soda, water and a tiny pinch of salt makes a great natural tooth cleanser.

If you start having your teeth brushed regularly when you are a kitten, you will enjoy it more as an adult, and it will make it easier for you and your human to enjoy this activity.

Did you know? An adult cat has 30 permanent teeth, including 12 incisors, 10 premolars, 4 canines and 4 molars.

Plaque is the soft film made up of saliva, mucus, bacteria and leftover food that builds up on the teeth's surface when they aren't brushed.

Tartar is the hard substance made up of calcium and phosphorous that forms at the gum line when the teeth aren't brushed regularly. It harbors and attracts more plaque and bacteria, which can lead to gum disease, gingivitis, halitosis and more.

If left unchecked both can lead to painful periodontal disease.

Feline dental treats, like Feline Greenies and Temptation's Dentabites help control plaque and tartar as well as freshen breath.

Midnight Monday on Wednesday

Mini Panther

Tyler's brofer Jake wrote in Tyler's blog yesterday "The poor guy doesn't even get his own day of the week because none of the days start with "b" for black or even "p" for panther."

So I explained -- "Monday starts with M for Midnight - the official day of House Panthers, but everyone has gotten off Midnight Monday now and is doing Mancat Monday. Quite a shame, actually. The male House Panthers should be doing Midnight Mancat Monday to take both into considerations...that seems a bit complicated for them. And Tyler doesn't even take advantage of Mancat Monday, so who knows."

I have noticed that a lot of Mancats are getting away from Midnight Monday and I'm just as guilty some weeks as I don't always do a Midnight Monday, but it would be great if we could get the word out and make out club a little more active, don't you think? One of us with Mr. Linky (yes, I include myself in this) really needs to do a post in here each Monday with a Mr. Linky on it, so that our members can add links to their Midnight Monday posts.

I have been remiss, but so have all of us.

I'd also like to see this blog be more active, maybe we need to find something to do to make it more fun? Any suggestions? Tuxy Gang is always doing something, Simply Siamese is doing the Spring Contest for H.A.M. and well the M-Cat club as really taken off.

Help me out here, my fellow House Panthers. We need some ideas!

Beads and Borders

So we do a couple of things last night. First Bean go through her bead collection and she find these beautiful antique rose beads. I do not like to wear beads much because they always fall funny and seem to strangle me, but Bean wishes me to get used to wearing beads, especially since most of the things we have for St. Patrick's Day involve beads. She THINKS she know to solve the problem to make it more comfortable for me to wear beads, but...that not what is post is about.

Even though I am making a face about having to wear the beads, you can see that they are very pretty.

Miss Diamond Emerald-Eyes

So then I settle down and we take some pictures with the beads. The other thing is that Bean has a program called Photo Suite 4 which she got as part of bundled software, she thinks when she buy her scanner. It has a lot of cool features on it that makes it easy to design projects like greeting cards and calendars. But it also makes collages and puts edging on pictures. She has used it to make collages to use as wallpapers of her baseball teams/players, but she said she will work on a collage of me this weekend, in part because Janagraphics make such nice collages for Not the Mama's cats. I especially like the one of Spooker.

But last night she play with the border feature. These are two different pictures we took. The first one uses just a plain white border:

Miss Diamond Emerald-Eyes

This looks nice on white backgrounds. The second one adds in some red for Valentine's Day into the boarder:

Miss Diamond Emerald-Eyes

I thought these turned out very nice. I cannot wait to see collage now!

On a side note: Wednesday night we watch A Knight's Tale. After sleeping on it, she wake up Thursday and say "I have this great idea! We can put little action figures on you back and we can have Kitty Jousting!"

I ask if she think that up all on her own or if the village idiot help her with the idea. Like I am going to stand still for her to perch Action Figure on my back?

Foolish Human.

Fun with Photoshop

Bean played a bit with photoshop filters. Not the Mama was doing it with some of Little Isis photos, and she wanted to try it with me.

This is the watercolor filter. I think the photoshop of Little Isis eyes turned out much better. Perhaps on a different picture?

This is the Neon edges filter. I like the way this one turned out. I think it is my favorite of the experiments, as it makes me look dark and mysterious.

This is the poster edges filter. I suppose when I become a Celebricat, there will be lots of posters made of me, and they will look like this?

This is the glowing edges filter. It's kind of cool. We will have to try this one on different photos...maybe something with more white edges or perhaps a Mardi Gras shot where I'm wearing my fancy collar. It might yield some interesting results.

Tempting

Temptations

During Mardi Gras, when the parade goes buy all the humans scream "Beads! Beads lady! Beads!" and sometimes the people on the floats will throw them beads. As a cat, I do not have a whole lot of use for beads althought they can be fun to play with.

Instead I meow "Treats! Treats lady! Treats!"

Sometimes it even works!

Midnight Monday: Brimstone the Demon Cat

Most days I am a pretty good kitty cat, but today I am mad enough to become Brimstone, Demon Cat from Hell.

Photobucket

My Bean has been under a human V-E-Ts care for when she has problems with Mr. Arthur Itis. I do not like this Mr. Arthur Itis guy and neither does Bean and if I ever catch him attacking her, I will rip his head off. But he always attacks when I can't see.

So she gets pain medication for these attacks. Well, for the last few months, the rotten nurse over at the doctors office as been making it really hard for her to get the same pain medication she's been on for over a year.

This weekend, Mr. Arthur Itis attacked her hard, but she has no pain medication because this nurse has been yanking her chain.

If I every find this nurse, I am going to claw her eyes out and put her in a lot of pain. Unfortunately, I do not think she lives near by and I never leave the neighborhood.

She is going to see the doctor on Thursday and is going to talk to him about this mean nurse of his who is in league with Mr. Arthur Itis, but it is still wrong that she must be in a lot of pain until then.

I hope you have had a better weekend than the one my bean has suffered through, and I hope your Midnight Monday is just wonderful!

Post YOUR Midnight Monday here at House Panthers, or a leave a link below...
